EV Charging Station Etiquette
Toyota Electric Vehicles for Sale in North Carolina
At Griffin Toyota, we're well aware of the fact that many changes are happening to the automotive world and the vehicles that are being created! Most of us are used to primarily gasoline-powered vehicles that don't utilize electric capabilities. However, Toyota has been at the forefront of electric capabilities, which is why we want to take the time to discuss something like charging stations for a Toyota like the bZ4X. This is an all-electric vehicle that can get you where you need to go with ease! But what about charging? We know that charging stations are pretty new to most of us, and not everyone may understand how to behave when stopping at a station to get the necessary charge to be on your way. That's why we are discussing some key etiquette tips to follow when you are using a charging station. All you have to do is keep reading below for more information!
Can I park at a charging station if I'm not charging my vehicle?
One of the worst things you can do at a charging station is to park at one as if it's a regular parking space. We are all trying to get where we want to go, and using a charging station to just park your vehicle but not charge it is one of the major offenses that we want everyone to avoid. These spaces are for people who need to charge their vehicle, and when you take that space away from someone, you could be making their trip that much more inconvenient. It's important to all work together, and everyone benefits from following this key rule!
Stopping at 80% charge
We want to preface this next bit of etiquette by stating that this isn't for everyone! Sometimes people do need to get to a full charge, especially if a longer trip is scheduled, and thus, more range is necessary. However, for many of us, an 80% charge can work just fine to get to your next destination. When you hit 80% this is when most electric vehicles slow down the charge to help protect the battery itself. That means getting to 80% should be fairly quick, but it could take longer to get to 100%. To help everyone out, consider stopping at 80% and being on your way from there.
Follow all of the signs
Every charging station is going to vary differently! No matter the reasons why, it is important that all of us follow the rules of the charging station that we are utilizing. Some stations actually have time limits posted, and should that be the case, you need to be following what the signs tell you. The more we follow the rules that are established, the easier everything else becomes! Remember, we're all trying to get where we need to go, and everyone wants to do that as quickly as possible without any delays. Let's work together!
Never unplug another car
While this may be the most obvious piece of etiquette that we could say, it's worth mentioning just to be sure. We know that many people want to get their vehicle charged as soon as possible, but you should never be unplugging someone else's vehicle to get that done. This is incredibly rude, but you should also consider how you would feel if that happened to you. The best thing you can do is wait your turn, or to check out other charging stations in the area.
